“There is a fountain of youth: It is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love, when you learn to tap this source, YOU will truly have defeated age. ~ Sophia Loren

Is it possible to be as fit both physically and mentally at the age of 60 as someone half that age? The answer is yes! Being conscious of lifestyle choices will only aid in the process of aging. Listed below are just a few helpful tips to maintain a healthy and joyous life while in your golden years.

•Attitude: Attitude plays a major role in the aging process. It is why many older adults adopt the “only as old as you feel” mantra. And it’s true! We are not guaranteed forever, the best thing any of us can do is embrace today.

•Physical and Mental Health: It is sometimes easier said than done when advising one to maintain a positive mindset. Particularly when chronic pain is part of your life. However, research finds that when it comes to sick people, those with a positive and optimistic thought process can improve their health, especially when coupled with stress management. Brain exercises like reading, crossword puzzles, playing card games and/ or trivia games are beneficial. Hobbies like painting, model car building, or even catching a showing of your favorite classic movie are all things that improve your overall happiness. If you’re able, take a trip out of town or maybe even the country!

•Let's Get Physical! Immersing yourself in enjoyable activities leaves you wanting more. No matter the age, weight, or fitness level, there Is something for everyone. Even things as simple as arm and leg rotations have an effect on blood circulation! Make it your business to visit your favorite restaurant or park. Maybe even join a mall-walking group. They’re free! Senior yoga has also been a recent trend that uplifts the mind, body, and soul.

•Socialize: Spending time with friends, family, and those that truly care about you will only serve to validate your importance. When a bad day does arrive, having a loved one cheer you can make a world of difference.

Enjoy the beauty and wisdom that comes with aging. You are now smarter, more experienced and you have the time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Healthy eating choices can be just as effective as a bunch of medication!
